Welcoming Fall

It has been a crazy couple of weeks as the semester kicked into full swing. I took the time today to photograph some of the gorgeous leaves outside my building. The photos reminded me that things always come and go and that change is for the better. One of my close friends once said: "It's O.K. to not know exactly where you're going, or to be confused." Just like the colors of the leaves, things sometimes look better when they're somewhere in between. Eventually, everything will fall right into place :-)

I have been patiently waiting to finally post these photos! During the summer, the GirlScout Council of the Nation’s Capital asked me to do a photo shoot for theirpromotional items for the year. The shoot was based around the Capitol building in D.C. and includedsome super adorable Girl Scouts!! The day turned out to be sunny yet very hot. I’m so proud of all the girls who were very cooperative inhelping us have a smooth and successful shoot!

Amy and Hernan met in 2008 at Towson when they were both drum majors in the marching band. Since then, I've kept in touch with both of them and was excited to shoot their wedding! Enjoy they photos!

Saks Fifth Ave. Reception | GSCNC

Earlier this month, I was honored to shoot the Gold Award Reception at Saks Fifth Avenue. Being a Gold Award recipient myself and attending this event in the past, I couldn't be happier shooting it! This year, the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital (GSCNC) teamed up with Georgetown Cupcake to make the Thin Mint Cupcake and awarded GSCNC with $21,000 from the sales! This was such a fun event and the girls got to have a Q&A with founders and sisters Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontage.

Rancourt Family Portraits

I had the pleasure to meet and photograph the Rancourt family this past weekend! Both kids were really fun to photograph! Their blue theme went great with everything too. Ross/Brown Family Portraits

This shoot was full of surprises! I got to shoot two families together and these kids were fun! I enjoy having a shoot full of surprises! We went from hanging in the park to running on a field, to shooting in the porch. Here are a couple of my favorites!

Moore Family Portraits

This family portrait couldn't have been on a better day! I met up with the Moores on a sunny Saturday morning at Sherwood Gardens in Baltimore. Since I hadn't worked with a baby outdoors before, I didn't really know what to expect. Baby W as a little camera shy at first, but got really comfortable towards the end. Overall, I came out with some grass stains, wet sweatshirt, but awesome photos! It was well worth it! I enjoyed spending time with all three of them and I hope they really enjoy their photos!

Gains through losses | Photojournalism class

My last photojournalism assignment was called "gained through losses." Now what did that mean? Well thats what we had to figure out and then shoot it. I had come up with a couple concepts but nothing really hit me until a couple nights before the assignment was due. One of my colleagues and friend Brian is a HUGE fan of the Baltimore Orioles. Unfortunately, they happen to loose...often. Anyway, Brian's room (and closet) is always filled with Orioles (and Ravens) jerseys, flyers, posters, magnets, schedules, pillows, etc...you name it...he has it! Brian was more than happy to pose with his Orioles memorabilia! Here are three I liked ...

Arun Gandhi | The Towerlight

This past weekend I had the pleasure of shooting the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital (GSCNC) Annual Meeting in Leesburg, VA. I was super excited for this shoot because not only was I a Girl Scout for 10 years, but I really feel that this organization impacts so many girls in amazing ways.

Most meetings may seem long and boring, but this one was fun! GSCNC always knows how to make the audience laugh! Above is a photo of the current president P. Diane Tipton and CEO Lidia Soto-Harmon.

Gertrude "Bobby" Lerch was the first GSCNC president in 1963. Bobby celebrated her 101 birthday a couple weeks ago and was being honored with an award for her great contributions to GSCNC.

Sports photography | Photojournalism class

My photojournalism class has really pushed me to photograph things I usually don't. Last week, we were assigned to take sports photos. Since The Towerlight was covering the men's lacrosse game vs. Hofstra, I decided to shoot that. I went with my photo editor who was able to guide me through my first real sports event. While most of my photos came out blurry or were hard to even understand what was happening in the shot, I did get these three...

I'm glad I at least got something! With time, hopefully, I'll be able to get something even better!

One day earlier in the semester, I was walking through campus, when I saw this cute little girl playing outside. It was really cold out, but that didn't seem to bother her at all. It just reminded me that despite the current conditions around you, you should continue to do what you enjoy doing :-)

Priyan's headshots

A couple days ago Priyan asked me to do a set of headshots for his LinkedIn page. Since there was good lighting at the moment and he was dressed up, we decided to take a quick break from school work and take some photos.

I took these photos in my room (which there isn't much room for, and is full or bursts of red and pink) because the light is really great at 2 in the afternoon. The big windows lets in enough light for great photos but getting a good semi-solid background was a challenge. Overall, it was fun working with what we had and I think they turned out great :-)

Professor and Chocolate | The Towerlight

Last week my photo editor from The Towerlight asked me to shoot a portrait of a professor. As I agreed, I asked him what the professor taught and what the story was about. He lost me when he said chocolate. After asking him to repeat it three times, my following question was "...do you have any ideas how I should incorporate the two?!" his response was "include chocolate."

Walking into Dr. James Saunder's blue office, I had absolutely no idea what to expect (aside from chocolate). Dr. Saunders, a Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Bioinfomatics (MB3) professor also dedicates his time to the study of chocolate. He took me and the reporter through the very extensive chocolate process and how it goes from the cocoa trees to a small wrapped item in the stores. The best part of course was tasting the chocolate!! It's not everyday I taste 100% chocolate!!!!!

I had a hard time taking these photos mainly because his office was blue and he was wearing blue too. The colors aren't what I really wanted but they're getting there. Anyway, enjoy these three photos!

Rev. Run | The Towerlight

Last week I got a call to shoot Joseph Simmons aka Rev. Run from Run-DMC. As the program started and the lights dimmed, I realized this wasn't going to be an easy shoot. About 45 minutes of the hour Q&A was dark with an odd blue light shinning on him and the intervier; both subjects happened to be wearing blue & gray. The shot that ran on The Towerlight was part of those 15 minutes of light as for everything that was shot before it, was dark and grainy.

Peruvian Food!

If it's anything I love doing, its eating! Every time I go to Perú, I always gain about 5 pounds (although this time I exercised, unlike the past trips...) but I love every thing that I eat there! Here are some photos from my trip this past holiday season.

Christmas in Peru

This year, I got to spend my christmas holiday it in Peru! While holidays like this one may seem really universal, there are a lot of things that differ from country to country. Like many cultures, families decorate their houses both inside and out with lights, ornaments and other little trinkets. In Peru, you will see a nativity scene pretty much everywhere you see a christmas tree. I was so intrigued by all the decorations and absolutely loved taking photos of some of the things that caught my eye :-)

Yesterday, I visited my cousin Mónica and aunt Leo. Having my camera handy, we did a mini photo shoot right before Mónica went off to teach at a near by institution. We started inside but then realized that the light at a near by stairs were better so we tried it there! We had fun and had a couple laughs :-) Check them out!

Rob's portraits

Rob is such an amazing artist! I first saw his work earlier this year in a gallery at school and after that, I've been on the look out for more! He also started designing for The Towerlight and already has a couple covers (they can be seen here, here, and here).

Recently, Rob opened up his own show and I just had to see it! After going, I had asked him to let me take some photos of him with his work. We ended up talking a lot about his style and how he works with all the different types of mediums. I'm such a fan and I hope he enjoys the fotos!!

A lot of people visited the gallery and I thought that entry from his dad was really nice :-)

New Cards!

I've definitely been M.I.A. in the past month but I'm back!!!

I wanted to post a quick entry about my new business cards! I had a hard time deciding what company I wanted to order them with but I finally decided on Moo.com. The process was fairly easy. The only downside to their web page was that you couldn't really customize the front of the card. That's when I asked a graphic designer Bethany to help me out. Earlier this year I had blogged about Missy doing my logo and definitely wanted to incorporate that into the cards. The back of each card are photos I took and uploaded to their site.

I was super excited when I received them and realized that my black and white photos were toooooo dark! So I contacted Moo right away and they did their best to get me much lighter photos. Overall, very satisfied with them!! Check out Moo!!!

Alayna's portrait

I often find myself smiling when I'm shooting. Not only am I happy about the photos I'm getting, I'm happy about the great day/my surroundings, and most importantly about the emotions my subjects are expressing.

Alayna and I met last year when we lived in the same residence hall, but this year, I got to know her better as we both work together in the same building. Every time I see her, she's always smiling and saying positive things to people who she may see that day. I had wanted to shoot some photos of her for a while and we finally got together and walked around campus. There are so many great places to shoot on campus and I always tell myself I'll do it "one day" and I was finally able to do it today!!!

Below are a few favorites from the shoot :-)

I had been trying to get some different angles in this shoot and what ever I seemed to do wasn't working! Alayna was already on the ground and I had to think of a new angle. Then I thought, "If she's on the ground, then why am I not on the ground?!" So I laid down in front of her and got some of the shots below. I was laying in the middle of a sidewalk and people probably thought I was crazy haha oh well I got the shots I wanted :-D

We found a total of hmmm 10 leaves to throw haha :-)

Alayna really liked the photo above :-)

Another photographer, DeCarlo talked to me about a technique where the subject is well lit but the background is a lot darker than expected. I tried it during the next two photos but Alayna kept laughing so we just goofed off and got some funny shots!

I had such a great time this afternoon! I hope you love the photos as much as I do Alayna!!!

Chérif's portraits

After my last mini-photoshoot with Brian, I realized that I hadn't taken portraits of any guys! I quickly remembered that my close friend Chérif wanted a photoshoot!

Chérif is an international student from Senegal--we met our first year when we both lived on an international floor. I was really excited to shoot some portraits of him but was not looking forward to the cold weather!!! We ended up going to the old side of campus to get some of the shots below!

During the shoot, Chérif (who is an frequent reader of my blog) said, "You know how you always write a paragraph before posting photos? Well I think I know what you're going to say." Haha I will definitely say that he cracked up laughing a lot during the shoot! I didn't realize how many candid shots I got of him laughing until I looked through all of them! I hope he enjoyed it and stayed warm during it!!!

As part of a bulletin board our assistant supervisor is creating, all of the staff members had to provide her with a headshot. Brian, came to me that day asking me to take a photo of him... of course I told him I would and of course I was going to take more than one photo!! This photoshoot was so impromptu but fun! We didn't know where to shoot at first but then found a stairwell that is rarely used. The lighting was odd and so I bounced my flash off the walls for a softer look. Brian was really chill about being in front of the camera and I think he enjoyed his photos! Here are some from the mini-shoot!

B.o.B & Wale - Homecoming Concert | The Towerlight

As part of TU's homecoming week kick off, the yearly concert was held this past sunday. This year's main artists were B.o.B. and Wale. I was able to shoot this concert with two other photographers for The Towerlight and the night was so unexpected!!!

First, it took Wale almost an hour to get on stage and perform only for 20 minutes but the fun parts were when he jumped into the crowd a couple times! The fans, security and all the photographers were running like crazy trying to get to him! Good thing I managed to get a couple shots!

After the concert, I stuck around to talk to some of the Campus Activities Board (CAB) members about the success of the concert. I ended up staying with a Towerlight reporter and got the opportunity to meet B.o.B. and got to shoot the interview on his bus!!! The pressure was definitely on for these photos. I was the only photographer there and I wasn't expecting that at all! The area was small and really dark! I remember Mike Buscher giving me a tip at a wedding about using your arm as a tripod --I tried it and got much clearer photos than without!

Definitely a fun night!! I really enjoy shooting concerts and can't wait for the next one!!

The Three Tree Experience @ The Recher Theater

When I saw that The Three Tree Experience was playing at the Recher Theater for their CD release, I was super excited and really wanted to go! I then remembered a couple posts back, I had blogged about a shoot I did for The Towerlight for The Three Tree Experience and how much I enjoyed their performance. So that led me to wanting to shoot for them again. The problem was that the last time I was at the Recher, I had such a hard time because of the awkward lighting. I was hesitant to shoot there again because I wasn't satisfied with my last photos, so the best way for me to get better was to go back and shoot more! The results were MUCH better! I have been experimenting with the white balance setting on my camera and that definitely helped!!! I also used a prime lens that I really enjoy shooting with and made my life easier!

I absolutely love the sound of this band! They have such a cool mix of music and you can tell how much they enjoy performing!

Last time at the Recher, the drummer had the best lighting but not so much this time, so I had to do a little bit of editing with photo but I liked how it came out!

The crowd was awesome! They were soooo into it!!
One thing about this concert that I haven't done at any other was being able to be on stage with them. Its a completely different experience and the lighting was such a challenge!

Overall, awesome night!!! Hopefully I'll have the opportunity to shoot for them again :-)

Art & Magic | The Towerlight

Many college students go out on Friday nights...not me (for the most part). I enjoy relaxing after a long week, getting some dinner and heading to bed early! Well, unlike my usual Friday, I was called to shoot two assignments...at the same time. Not only was I already annoyed that I had to shoot two assignments on my Friday night, but the fact that I had to somehow be in two places at once was frustrating. There was an arts gallery opening and a magician performing. I decided to go to the art gallery first since it had already been opened an hour before I was notified of the shoot.

The Asian arts gallery at TU was really fun! I've only been there twice and should definitely stop by more often!

I really liked how the light circled the art work!

One thing I would have wanted to see in this gallery was more students!!! I was only able to shoot (what I assumed) as non-students viewing the gallery. I'm glad they came tho because the artwork was really cool!

After the gallery, I went my least favorite place to shoot....Paws. If you had read my blog a couple weeks back, you know that I have a hard time shooting there. Anway, I made do with what I had. I walked in and saw Adam Trent levitate some crazy things!!

I will admit that I didn't shoot for about a fourth of the time because my mouth dropped at the crazy things he was doing and couldn't bring myself to shoot it because I was trying to figure out how the heck he was doing that!

TU always brings random "illusionists" and "magicians" but I was SOOO happy they brought Adam!! Props to my friend NaShey who organized the event through the Campus Activities Board (CAB)!!!
Haha I loved this guy!! I cracked up sooo hard at watching him during this portion of the show. Earlier this week, I found out he lived in my building and I couldn't stop thinking about how funny this was! Hope he enjoys the photos!!

Adam Trent had this really good message of following your heart with whatever you do and it was a perfect ending to his show!! Check him out on his site here!

This happens all the time! I get really annoyed at the fact that I have to shoot something last minute and then I end up telling my editor thanks for making me do it because I always have a great time! I ended staying up much later than expected but well worth it!!! More photos to come this week!! I picked up more assignments! :-D

Celebrating 50 years

A couple weeks ago, my friend Kim contacted me to shoot her dad's surprise birthday party and it was a blast! The event was held at American Legion in Bowie, MD.

The majority, if not all of the food was made by some of the women in the family and it was delicious!!!

He was surprised but definitely knew Kim and his wife were up to something!!!

This family knew how to dance!!!

I had so much fun at the party!!! I hope they enjoyed their photos!!!

MD/VA Wedding | Mike Buscher Photography

About two weekends ago, I assisted Mike again with a wedding that took place both in Maryland and Virginia. This was my first time shooting in a church and it was a good experience overall! I feel much better about shooting weddings after assisting Mike these past couple of times. I also find it really helpful to be able to get guidelines before and during the wedding with someone who really knows what to expect. It's also really interesting seeing Mike's photos after the wedding and seeing what he saw during the event.

Guest passes: from paper to electronic

For the past years, all residence halls at TU have been using paper slips to check in residents. TU spends a lot of money and paper on these slips...until this year!! The system went electronic, so it is easier and more efficient to check-in guests.

I like all the CC workers, but in my opinion, Priyan is by known as the best and most trusted CC worker. He's been working there for years and knows his stuff. He even got an award for it last year!

New York Times Talk - Islamic community center near ground zero

Every month, there is a discussion on a current topic. This time it was about the building of an Islamic community center near ground zero. This room was packed!!! There was great discussion and I really enjoyed listening to all points of views!

International Students at TU

There are many international students living at TU and I was happy to photograph them speaking to a Towerlight writer about their experiences in the US. There are students from China, Korea, Slovenia, Venezuela, Rwanda, Nigeria and many more (not all pictured)!

Reenactment of an ICE raid

Earlier this week, a couple students got together to reenact an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid that occurs too often in the US. This brought awareness to all of campus about some of the actions that go unseen in regards to deportation.

What I enjoy about campus events is that a lot of faculty and staff attend!! Although you can't see that in all of the photos...trust me, they were there!!! More posts this week!!! Thanks for visiting!

Lindsey has been reading my blog since the start of it!!! Really!! She never misses a single entry and every time I refer to it, I can always count on her to know exactly what I'm talking about! I would highly consider her my #1 fan haha :-)

Anyway, Lindsey wanted some headshots for a casting call for some upcoming theater productions and I was more than happy to do them for her!! We walked around old side of campus to shoot some of these photos! I'm really happy about the way they turned out! I hope she enjoys them too! Good luck w/ the casting call Lindsey!!!

There were random times when Lindsey kept giggling and I thought it was cute! :-)

The Three Tree Experience | The Towerlight

A week ago my photo editor called me at 10:15 p.m. asking me to shoot something at a venue with one of the worst light conditions in TU. My first thought was, "There's no way I'm shooting something at Paws at 10:15!" But about 2 minutes later I was making my way down to Paws to shoot this event.

I had no idea exactly what this event was for, who was going to be there, and exactly what to shoot-- in other words: I just didn't know what I was walking into.

Once I arrived, I saw a band setting up and realized I knew two of their members and amongst the crowd I saw a couple of my friends. I was more at ease and forgot about the time especially when The Three Tree Experience started playing!! I was really impressed with their sound and excitement on stage!!! This was a difficult place to photograph but the band definitely made up for the bad lighting at Paws!!! Check out some of the photos from the shoot.

DC Wedding | Mike Buscher Photography

A week ago Mike Buscher from Mike Buscher Photography asked me to assist him with a wedding and I was super excited and couldn't wait for Saturday! The wedding took place at the Hotel Monaco in D.C. I helped Mike set up lights since we were shooting a couple portraits inside. He also allowed me to shoot which I was most excited about!!! Here are some of my photos from the day! I've noticed that putting on a wedding dress is a multi-person job!!!

There was a little alcove at the hotel and a perfect place for some portraits!!! Fun Fact: Hotel Monaco was the original post office for Washington, D.C. built in 1893!! (Source: Hotel Monaco D.C.)

The bride and groom also made CDs for their guests!

The glasses had a garter or a bow-tie!! Cute!

The bride and groom went to school together and I think this picture describes their personalities! They were fun to photograph!!

The Big Finish

The past couple weeks have been quite busy for me and over 100 students. As we finished two weeks (or as some say, 10 days) of training, we were happy to come together one last time to celebrate the end of training!

I have shot in this room in before and had a bad experience but I made sure I made this day a lot better!! I was quite happy with the results!!! Here are some of my favorite!

Kanji shoots for TU and his pictures are literally everywhere. As he was taking a group shot, I decided to take one of him, and he got me back!

They had matching Coach bags :-) Cute!

Tie-Dye

It has been a very long time since I've tie dyed!!! Last night, my staff and I gathered to do some and it was a lot better than I expected!!! My shirt is still in the drying process but came out good and the pictures I took did too!!! This room is hard to shoot in (just like many other rooms at Towson) but I got the chance to try different white balance settings; it made shooting easier and made me a happier photographer!

Today marked the end of my summer :-( but also marked the first day of a new place to take pictures :-) I've been moving in and out of Towson for a couple years and it was about time to start taking some photos!!!

I always found it funny how in Towson the word "humps" is used over "bumps"... apparently there is a difference but they all have the same purpose!!!

One thing that never stops at Towson...construction!!

Pool

Pool time with these kids made the time go by so fast! They were splashing and playing for an entire hour but it seemed like 15 minutes! Here are some from yesterday...

Bulb

Last night in attempts to falling asleep, I decided to play around with my camera. My room was too dark to shoot some of the things I wanted and had to keep lowering my shutter speed...then I noticed my film camera (that hasn't been used in over 4 months!!!) on my night desk and thought about some of the projects my first and only photo teacher Ms. Blankenship had allowed us to create. That's when I remembered about bulb exposure. So quickly scrolled down my shutter speed until it said "bulb" ...and thats where the fun began. I hadn't done bulb exposures in literally 4 years and I have no idea why!!!! After about an hour of playing with the light, this is what I came out with...

Below is probably the creepiest smiley face I've ever drawn...

My cousins are always looking at my photos so I started writing their names. Natalia was too long to write so I decided to write her nickname instead :-)

Once I find more objects that light-up, I'm sure you'll be seeing more bulb exposure work from me!!

N.E.R.D. | The Towerlight

Many people know I shoot for The Towerlight and often see me running around campus trying to cover an assignment. One of my favorite things to cover is Tigerfest, an event that TU holds every year. Early in the spring semester I was excited to see Keri Hilson and Wale...and then they cancelled two weeks before the show. I was pretty upset, but not for long because N.E.R.D. was going to be performing!!! For about a month before the concert, I bugged my photo editor about letting me shoot the event and after many texts and phone calls to him, he finally let me join him and another photographer (THANKS CASEY!!!). This was my second time shooting TigerFest and it's probably my favorite event.

I was looking through my pictures on my computer and realized that I still had a bunch from TigerFest but had no clue what I was going to do with them!! I couple got published (and one made the cover :-D) but the rest were just sitting in a folder on my desktop. So I decided to post them!! I know its really really late but I thought it was time to share some of these.

The pictures below are not edited or cropped (except the last one). They just came straight out of the camera, to a computer, to my flashdrive and then to my desktop :-) Enjoy!

A couple of my friends attended the concert and got to hug Pharrell :-) I love Casey's expression in this picture!!

This was a really fun concert!!! I would do it all over again if I could!!

World Cup

I remember the times when I was young and all the men in the house would gather around a TV and watch soccer for what seemed hours. But as I grew up I learned to enjoy watching it with the entire family. The world cup comes once every 4 years and this year I watched it with some of my closest friends :-) Here are some pictures!

A couple days ago I met up with a couple models from the group Modelz of Distinction, a new group on campus. I had previously met Jayden and Ashlee (President and VP) through a campus retreat and it was great getting together with them to get them some shots! Their theme was "survivor" and Ashlee described it as "Destiny's Child survivor" :-) Overall, I had lots of fun with the group and hope to work with them again!!! Here are some pics from the shoot!

Learning about Sudanese culture on the 4th of July

Assalam alikoum! That's how you say hello in Arabic! It actually means peace but it is a greeting among Arab speakers. Sunday when I walked into Inas' house I didn't realize I was going to end up taking 200+ pictures of all the day's events!! So lets get started!!!

During Krystal's rehearsal lunch (Krystal's wedding?? I know I'm going back, and this story has a purpose I promise!!!), we were discussing how detail oriented she is and I told the story about a time she had to make a Sudanese flag for an event and when I saw it, the first thing I said was, "Hey Krystal, the flag looks too long" and she responded with, "I made it according to the right proportions!" So I just had to look it up, and she was right--the Sudanese flag is longer than most flags. I totally forgot about the story after we shared some laughs at the lunch...and then I saw the flag Krystal made in Inas' room and I just HAD to take a picture!!!!

After we relaxed a little, Inas introduced me to her nieces and goodness are they CUTEEE!!!!!

They had such a cute smiles and all but one only knew Arabic, so although at times it was hard to communicate, she taught me some words like bracelet...
...three minutes later, I forgot how to say it!! It happened with the numbers too haha!!

The youngest of the girls was so little she could sit herself in between these bars and I couldn't help myself but take a picture!!
And she also cheesed like her new friend :-D

Then it was time to EAT!!!!!!

Inas and her family can COOOOOOK!!! They made falafel :-D !!!

They also had guests over so there was LOTS of food!!!

After lunch, it was coffee and tea time! Sudanese coffee is one of the best I've ever tasted!

After a food coma, we decided to go outside and relax for a little. Outside Inas' door was a scripture...

And of course, a picture of Inas :-D

So after much food and relaxation, we headed down to the nation's capital for fireworks!!! DC really light up the city with these!!!

Most people don't like to go to DC for fireworks because the crowds, but we loved it!!! Inas commented that she'd been wanting a SpongeBob (she's obsessed!!!) ice cream...SOO we were on a look-out!!! After walking about 4 blocks, we found a stand with some and I was laughing so hard that I didn't even care what this picture looked like photographically, just that it would show her excitement for the ice cream!!!

As we sat there eating our ice creams, little kids (and even adults!) would give us the "hey!!! I want that ice cream too!!!" look --probably the best part of the night!!

So, overall, a great weekend and a culture filled day! I loved it all!!!

Tomorrow I get to shoot for a new modeling group on-campus called Modelz of Distinction. Excited!!!!!!

Make-up!

When I shot Krystal's wedding, I also was able to go with her to get her make-up done. Ali Verbinnen from Town Hair Salon (Located in Newark, DE --People's Plaza) was super nice and did an awesome job! Krystal wanted a hint of green on her eyes and she was able to do it without making it super obvious and it still looked great!!! Below are some pics of the make-up session.

I met Krystal & Jon two years ago. Krystal was my one and only RA and we've been close since then. I remember last year when she knocked on my door and showed me her left hand and I yelled and hugged her in excitement!!! I've been waiting for her wedding day and it finally came!!!

I was with Krystal and Jon the day before their wedding for the rehearsal and preparation for the big day. As I was getting ready to head to the hair salon, I caught the two saying their last goodbye before the wedding.

While I was holding Krystal's phone an alarm went off and it said...

I thought it was cute that her ring fit inside his :-)

Krystal said she always wanted a small wedding dress...then she tried on the big one :-) I'm glad she did because she looked amazing in it!!

Krystal had been planning this wedding for the longest time all on her own. She did an amazing job!!!

Old San Juan Part II

Today was another day at Old San Juan. This time we had all day to relax and roam the streets without any particular place to go.

Throughout the streets, you can find colorful buildings :-) I love them!
My friend pointed out the garage below today and I just had to get a picture!!
Also, I remember the last time I went that I kept seeing these water meters everywhere. And I'm serious about everywhere. So I had to take a picture!

And then I found a bunch next to each other :-)That's all for today! Hope you liked the pictures!

Luquillo Beach

After the first time I came to Puerto Rico my friend Mary and I decided that Luquillo Beach was our favorite beach on the island. This beach is very calm, has shacks with food and drinks, very warm and you can also see El Yunque (national rainforest) in the background!!! This time around, I was able to go back and although it poured for a while, it cleared up some and was able to take some pictures :-)

In order to get the picture below, I had to get in the water to take the picture. I only did it because there were little waves and thought it was a different view but I was still scared!!! Haha glad I didn't drop the camera in the water!!

I enjoyed my time there and hope to return again :-)

Mountains and Beaches

VaToday was a day in the car! We drove to 3 mountains and the view was great! My favorite though was driving to the south east of the island and taking pictures of this one beach :-)

There were so many rocks and the water was so shallow that you could probably walk out to that first wave on the picture! It was crazy but so pretty!!

This beach had soooo many little rocks and shells all mixed together! It was fun walking on the shore and enjoying the weather!

Later, we stopped and found a little balcony to look off of and of course, we saw more rocks but it was really great to look out from there... AND while standing on the balcony, there was a critter on one of the bars :-)

Overall, a great day! Lots of blue today, probably all green tomorrow :-)

Old San Juan

Today was spent walking around Old San Juan and checking out the "fortaleza" and "el Morro." Although it was a hot and cloudy day, we were able to still have fun :-) This was the second time I've been to Old San Juan but the first time one of my best friends and I decided to skip that part and relax instead :-) We also saw a bunch of cruise ships and boy are they HUGE!!!!! They also enter and leave the port FAST! Anyway, the day was still fun and got some good pics!

And I thought this one would make some people laugh :-)

Puerto Rico

I am enjoying my time in the "isla del encanto" so far :-) We hiked in the rainforest today while it was pouring and I loved every minute of it!!! Then we hit up the pool and I thought this sign was funny because I'd never thought I'd see it!!! I guess its only expected when the pools are open 24/7!!! The other side said "swim at your own risk."

After a fun time in the pool, we rinsed off and attended a world cup party courtesy of the hotel :-) Silly thing was that there wasn't a game on! AND that nothing about the gathering had to do with world cup or worldliness. Still fun and got to meet cool people.

Many hotels provide shampoo and conditioner and various additional items to freshen up with, but never had I seen a hotel with my favorite products...

Aveda products!!! I love the rosemary mint scent!!

Isla del Encanto

I am currently in the enchanted island...PUERTO RICO!!! We arrived today after a very tiresome flight but we couldn't help our excitement!!!

After arrival, we couldn't wait to get some good Puerto Rican food while watching the world cup game of course (Brazil vs. North Korea). But before we did that, we HAD to check out our hotel! And what a WONDERFUL view we have :-)

I'll be sure to post more pictures of what we've been up to but for now, I must get some rest! Check in tomorrow!

"...One is silver and the other gold..."

For the longest time Girl Scouts all over the US have been singing "make new friends, and keep the old, one is silver and the other gold. A circle is round and never ends, that's how long we should keep our friends." I remember singing this EVERY single girl scout event and at times it got really annoying but I think that's because I never realized that the message is so powerful.

I met Melissa (Missy) when our junior Girl Scout troops mixed together in around 2003. Since then, we've been in touch. Recently, I decided to look at her facebook to see what she was up to and found out she was a graphic designer! I was looking for a logo that would be added to my photos but needed lots of help!! Missy was supper patient and listened to my ideas and what I was looking for in a logo. She even got it to me right after she came back from vacation!!! I am so grateful that I was able to contact and reconnect with Missy because she truly is a golden friend :-)

In addition her cousin is a professional photographer (Mike Buscher) and I'm looking forward to shadowing him next month!!! Click here for his site!

About two weeks ago, I was very fortunate to get some shots of Ashley! She is a close friend and a past co-worker :-) Ashley graduated this spring (CONGRATS!!!) so we decided she needed some senior pictures!! We spent the day walking around campus and although it was a VERY hot day, we were both able to get some great laughs and get sushi after! Thanks to Ashley for being able to come to TU for a fun day :-)
